FOR NEW YORKERS WHO NEVER HAVE ENOUGH SPACE: CUSTOM CABINETRY FROM GRANGE

New Yorkers never have enough space.  Clothes and books, two of the most common things to have overflow tend to multiply at a fast pace. With so many New Yorkers being renters, the need for storage arises, along with the desire to take that storage with you when you move. The workaround? Customized shelving and cabinets that look permanent, but can move with you. I discovered Grange, the historic French company had these beautiful modular wall unit systems from their Compositions Collection that allow for organization that can be completely customized in endless configurations. Whether you are making room for  a gigantic TV set, a bar, or books, the combinations can assuage your storage stress, providing solutions. Designed to be together or flanking doorways, these are spacial solutions that end up looking permanent, in classic period style furniture.  You may not know that they also do completely customized kitchens in a variety of finishes and woods too. This is just one aspect of what I uncovered while visiting with Grange recently, and I will have many more to reveal over the next week, as I join Grange in Paris for a visit to their flagship stores and to Lyon, for a behind the scenes tour to see how their pieces are made. I am so excited to tour their factory, see pieces in production, and find out about their latest design introductions debuting at Maison Objet. A little more about Grange. Made in France since 1904, the furniture was first brought to the US in the late 1970s by Bloomingdales, and they included the furniture in their annual French themed feature that was in all stores that carried home furnishings. Bloomingdale's home floor was legendary in those days, for creating sumptuous, on-trend design experiences with global reach.  From there, Grange became available at The NYDC at 200 Lex in New York.  Watch this space along with my Instagram @stylebeatblog when I do a @GrangeFurniture Instagram takeover and share my Paris trip. A bientot!

Endless custom combinations allow you to display collections, masses of books and things you want to keep stored away. A concealed desk is even an option.  I love the color options, and how the turquoise interior shown above pops with the black exterior making a fun stylish statement. Choosing from over 80 wood and paint finishes might be the hardest part of the process.

Have an apartment with zero closet space? Voila, a freestanding wardrobe with brass hardware and a built-in dresser to the rescue.

It starts with a 3D digital rendering to plan shelf placement and get the features you need. Here is a unit for a library, with enough shelf space for a serious book hoarder like myself.

Another built-in customized with space for a rather large TV set and open and contained storage

If you don't need something as expansive, this smaller composition with Directoire details is a bestseller.
